Can blood power your battery?
We all know about batteries that they are used to store charge. But do you know, a type of battery is under testing which uses our blood glucose to store charge.
Welcome to Engineering Master. In this article, we will explain everything about the future of power storage- Bio Battery.
Batteries are used everywhere, whether it is inside your wristwatch or mobile phone. But they all have dangerous chemicals or elements inside them. Due to this, there is always a risk of explosion or leakage which can be potential danger.
But recently scientists found that organic compounds may also help in storing charge and work as a battery. This organic compound is basically glucose such as blood glucose.
In the human body, when enzymes break down glucose, several electrons and protons are released. So, this process helps bio battery to receive energy from glucose. This battery then store charge for later use.
At present, this is just a concept under testing. But the concept still makes a sense, as plants and animals obtain energy after the breakdown of glucose.
Bio battery has some advantages and disadvantages. Advantages are their ability to allow instant charge as a constant supply of glucose is there and they keep themselves charged without any external power supply. Other advantages are their nonflammable and nontoxic fuel. This makes them eco-friendly and not harmful. Their disadvantage is their storage ability. They did not retain a charge for a long time as compared to conventional batteries like lithium batteries.
Recently, Sony has created a bio battery which gives the power output of 50 milliwatts. Scientists believe that this may replace the use of conventional battery and so they are working hard for this.
Well explained Bhaiya in short and crisp way …waiting for more articles from your side ..good luck….vatsala sudhanshu
Thanks a lot for your support.
Such an eye-opening read, thanks for sharing!
Great article.
